The Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck Super FabLab is an open platform for learning and innovation; a place to play, learn, mentor, collaborate, and create. Located at Thimphu Tech Park, it is the 2nd Super Fab Lab in the world, providing unique digital fabrication tools and services to its community. It currently consists of four different labs - focused on laser, carpentry, electronics production, and industrial graded work. Join us in our journey to learn and create almost anything.

Research

There is a huge potential for enabling research through the SFL platform. The lab currently enables innovation, invention, and prototyping. To foster a culture of learning, applicable and sustainable in-house research is encouraged. SFL is also open to collaborations with like-minded organizations and individuals.

Laser Lab

Laser Cutter: Speedy 400

Laser Cutter is one of the most versatile machines in SFL. Speedy 400, two laser sources (fiber and CO2 ) allow the use of a wide variety of different materials on the job. .It allows you to mark natural and bright-colored aluminum to anthracite or conduct a faster deep engraving.

Overall dimensions (W x D1 x H): 1428 x 952 x 1050 mm. Maximum height of workpiece 305 mm with CO2 and 283 mm with fiber Laser.

Power:

CO2 : 60 - 250 watts

Fiber: 20 - 50 watts.

Carpentry Lab

ShopBot

Uses advanced technology of CNC cutting, drilling, carving and machining. It has full production performance in the digital fabrication of wood, plastic, aluminum, and other materials.

Electronic Lab

Form 3 3D printer

Form 3 is an SLA (Stereolithography) printer. This printer uses a laser to cure liquid resin into hardened plastic in a process called photopolymerization. Produce functional, high-quality prototypes and end-use parts in record time with the Form 3+, an affordable, industrial-quality resin 3D printer that reliably delivers.

Heavy Machines Lab

TAI Lathe Machine

A high-precision CNC lathe, perfect for model construction, training, and small-batch productions. It distinguishes itself by quality, accuracy, sustainability, and consistent value. The braced machine bed is made from grey cast iron. Maintenance-friendly protective housing EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). Max length of workpiece 750/1000 mm. Range of spindle speed 150-2000 rpm

Carpentry Lab

SawStop Professional 3.0HP

It is the heavy, powerful and highest-quality 10″ cabinet saw available.

It has a 36-inch-glide fence assembly, a larger, heavier tabletop that provides an extensive cutting surface and dust collection facilities, and also its own safety system( The blade stops in less than 5 milliseconds, and drops below the table, minimizing a potentially life-altering injury to a mere scratch.)

The Control Box houses the on-off switch, power paddle, and on-board computer, and constantly checks that all systems are working to reliably keep you safe.

Laser Lab

APSX_PIM Injection Molder

The APSX-PIM is an automatic plastic injection molding machine that makes injection molding affordable and easy. It is a Heavy Duty machine for continuous or single cycle plastic part production. The APSX-PIM is an automated injection molding machine and has the ability to make parts much more than a rough draft prototype plastic part. It can be moved into nearly any workbench and requires only basic 120VAC wall outlet to operate. The standard mold size is 6" by 4.8" as it is stated for the Blank Mold available here. The mold installation process can be done in 15 minutes.
